Homes for Hounds is a nonprofit organization whose
sole purpose is to find homes for retired racing greyhounds either
Oregon bred or hounds who have run here previously while our track
was still running. We are the smallest group with only seven
volunteers all over the northwest helping find homes for these
loving and loyal retired greyhounds. An organization is only
as good as the volunteers they use. It is because of these
loyal and giving volunteers that Homes for Hounds enjoys such success
finding loving homes for these retired racer. We are out
at least 40 weekends per year to find our homes. Of the three
groups recognized by the OGA, we are the only independent group;
therefore since the OGA approves of our adoption process, it is
completely different than other groups. When we do an event,
we never work with our personal hounds but with hounds who have
been altered and are ready to go into new homes. We always
have a screener on sight to follow you home to help you get your
new four-legged friend settled, tell you how to take care of the
hound and check to make sure the new hound YOU have picked out
to fit into your family's lifestyle will be safe. We love
to help unite just the right hound with just the right family,
but the final
decision always is left up to the new family. We also love
to visit with people and provide information about these marvelous
animals, about living with them as a part of your family and what's
involved in adopting them.
There are many excellent resources available and we'd be glad to
provide a list of source materials. Learning about the greyhound
is important to the adoption process because you are making a commitment
to the greyhound for its entire lifetime. Please call or
e-mail for an information packet, for answers to your questions,
for our next scheduled appearance in your area or to schedule an
in-home screening

GPA/Emerald Pacific: Providing Adoption as an Option
The primary objectives and purposes of GPA/EP is to locate responsible,
loving homes for greyhounds that fail to qualify, or no longer
qualify, for the race track and to educate the public about greyhounds,
stressing their desirability as pets. GPA/EP screens all potential
homes so as to guarantee the continued safety of the greyhounds
and pursue all avenues that might help meet the goal of finding
acceptable homes for the racing industries greyhounds. |
